From the outset, the 3rds showed intent to attack and spent most of the half in the opposition’s half. However, lapses in judgement and several handling errors prevented us from crossing the white-wash and tragically led to Helderburg grabbing two tries against the run of play. A spot of ill-discipline cost us a penalty in our half, which the Helderburg kicker slotted with ease. Helderburg’s third try came from a quick tap exploiting our slowness in retreating. The score was 0-24 going into the half. Sadly, despite the 3rds’ attacking intent, it was a half to forget.
Determined not to lie down, the 3rds rose to the occasion and took the game right back to our opponents. Our boys played with a bit more intensity and better support to fix the slight shortcomings of the previous half. Konnie, Andrew, Junaid running in three unanswered tries to bring the 3rds within a try of leveling the scores. However, the day was not meant to be ours, due to there being no stoppage time, the game was 14min shorter than normal. Something that the coaching staff will have to account for in future games.
Lessons have been learned and the men of the 3rds showed some guts and skill, and should hold their heads high for their effort. While it might be a biased opinion, I do feel that Villagers 3rd team can bring it back for the remainder of the season. We keep moving forward.
