The 3rds had another game which could had gone either way. Due to logistical administrative complications we started on the back foot with only 14 players. The game started well for the Dirty Whites with some nice phase play and aggressive ball carrying, most notably by Peydon “Schalk” de Villiers. Unfortunately however opportunities weren’t converted and Kuilsriver came back and scored a good 15 man try to get the scoreboard ticking.
The boys then got together and continued pressure on the Kuilsriver line led to a great 20m break by prop Graham “Milf” Lindemann (in the pub later it became a 50m break) who was nicely put in a gap the size of the Grand Canyon by Lex. The game turned at half time 7-5 to Kuilsriver. After halftime a firing Kuilsriver team came out and scored a great 80m try from their own half. The conversion was missed. 12-5.
Village came back fighting and showed some enterprising attacking phase play leading to some more continued pressure on the Kuilsriver line which ended with Devon doing well to finish off. 12-10. Kuilsriver then turned the heat up and forced a penalty in front of our poles. 15-10. 5 points down and 7 minutes to play the guys sniffed a second league victory and fought hard to finish off however as the game opened up the Kuilsriver backs took opportunity of a good turnover in midfield to score an opportunistic 50m try. The conversion was completed. 22-10 final score.
