The Thirds ventured 2km down the road to meet our opponents Primrose on a blusterly Saturday afternoon. After what must be said was a very disjointed warm up Anton “Grumpy” van Vlaanderen, our captain of the day, gave a stern warning to the chaps that we in for a tough encounter. With the guys refocused on the game we headed into the first half.
Due to our own silly mistakes we proceeded to camp on our own line for the majority of the first half and in so doing allowing 2 very soft tries and a penalty before half time. Matters were further hampered when our hooker Adam “I wish I had hamstrings” van Niekerk and Vinny went off in the first half of the first half. This sent the bench into a total scramble and “creative positioning” had to be used in the pack. The last 5 minutes of the 1st half the boys sustained good pressure on the Roses’ line but with no success.
The 2nd half was a different story and the boys played what can only be called “champagne” rugby scoring 2 tries that would probably have made the highlights reel in any Supersport production. Our very own Habanatjie came to life in this open style of play by having a hand in both tries. The new boy from Sharks country, Marcel, must also be commended for his stirling performance with his Lambieesque look and touches to boot.
The final score ended up at 25 – 12.
