Score: Villager 13 Collegians 12
This was the first Friday night game of the season. It was always going to be a tough game. Collegian were second on the log and a tough team to beat. The condition was excellent for running rugby.
At kick off there was a slight disruption because Dollie the scrum was still being strapped and the coaches had to make changes. Anees move to scrumhalf and Zane from the bench to right wing.
The first half was real power struggle between both teams, with a good attacking play. Villages was on the attack in Collegians 22 when they lost control of the ball and Collegian counter attack by kicking the ball back into Villagers half. A mistake was made by Yusri when he took the ball over the try line, Collegians was awarded a 5-meter scrum but squander their opportunity by given away a penalty for obstruction running. Villages was able to clear their line with well taken penalty kick by Dylan. It was not long when Collegian threating to score, they were awarded two penalties in succession in the middle of the field one was 40 meters and the other was 30 meters, both penalties went unconverted.
Second half started with the same momentum as from the first half with Villages and Collegians both testing each other defence. It as Collegians to break first by given away a scrum penalty 2 min into the second half. It was in the middle of the field about 23 meters away. Dylan converted the penalty and it was Villages to take the lead 3-0. Soon after Villagers scored they handed the lead to Collegians, it was great try, Collegians attacked from their 22 to score in the left hand corner, 3-5 to Collegians. Villages was awarded another penalty and Dylan converted 6-5 to Villagers. Another penalty was awarded to Villagers and Dylan kicked it 5 meters out of Collegians try line. Well worked driven mall saw Bret score and Dylan converted 13-5. This would be Villagers last score of the game.
In the closing of the game, Collegians threw everything at the home side, but the home talked like demons and stopping Collegians in their tracks. This result in Collegians receiving a yellow card, they were now down to 14 men. Villagers could not capitalised and it was Collegian score the final points of the game.
It was a great performance by every single 3rd VX player.
