Brookside Hosts Claremont Derby

After their confident start in their first round Super League A fixture against Helderberg last week, Villager FC face Primrose RFC at Brookside on Saturday. Kick off is at 4pm.

With the team remaining mostly the same from last week, Head Coach Gunner Hughes expects an improved performance. “Although I was happy with last weeks result, we must remain focussed on improving as the league will only get tougher.” Says Hughes.

“We did well to claim the bonus point from Helderberg last week, however Primrose will be a much harder side to overcome as they will be confident after their win over UWC last weekend.” Hughes continued.

Although the backline scored most of the tries last weekend, the pack, lead by the ever impressive Ashley Clarke and Ryan Germishuys, will need to control the game up front if the home team are to have any chance of winning their second SLA game.

With only two changes in the pack which sees Nic Vetsos swapping with Brandon Hamman at loose head prop and Renier Scholtz with Luke Westgrath-Taylor at lock, the pack will have continuity on their side.

In the backline the unavailability of Neil Docking at flyhalf sees Trent Jenkinson move into the pivot spot from centre last week where his deft touches and strong running enabled the Villager wings to run havoc amongst the Helderberg defence.

With Jenkinson moving inwards, the welcomed return of last years stalwart Stuart Pattison at centre should provide the side with a strong carrying option as well as a calming influence.

The other change sees the mercurial Ryan Massyn swap with youngster Damian Rawstorne at wing.

“I thought the backline had a good game last week but they will have to be in top form on defence to nullify the quick outside backs of Primrose. However with the return of Stu Pattison and having Brent Sanders and Ryan Massyn on the wings I believe we are more than covered.”  Says Hughes.

The only changes on the bench sees Simon Greenwood and Yaseen Benito join the side from the 2nd XV.

Villager FC welcomes all supporters from Primrose to Brookside on Saturday and encourages everyone to enjoy the festive atmosphere Brookside offers.
