Club News

A big thank you to all those Villagers who attended the 135th Annual General Meeting that took place in the Clubhouse on Thursday 27 October 2016. It was a great turnout and your presence was an indication that the Villager FC is moving in the right direction. The spirit at the meeting was the Villager spirit that we as a club are renowned for and, again, a thanks for reinforcing the name of “Villager Football Club”.

Congratulations to Bossie Clarke who was unopposed and again elected as President of the club. Also, congratulations to George Snowball on being elected to the position of Honorary Vice-Pesident. George has given dedicated and loyal service to our club as a player and in an administrative role since 1968 and now joins the list of names of illustrious Honorary Vice-Presidents who have given so much to Villagers over the years.

The players have already started on their fitness and conditioning for 2017. Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a voluntary gym session with Dan McKenzie at the club and much sweat and tears has already been shed. It is good to see the commitment and hard work. Next season will see the Villager “manne” visiting the Boland in March as a pre-season camp and a match against Clanwilliam is being organised. Visits such as these into the “platteland” forges great team spirit, sets the tone for the season and builds great friendship bridges with the hosting club.

The Springbok 2016 tour to the UK will kick off this coming Saturday with the opening match against the Barbarians at Wembly Stadium. The Villager Clubhouse will again have a pub “happy hour” starting at 16h30 with the match commencing at 17h30. This will no doubt be a difficult tour for the Boks and the latest injuries will add to the pressure of securing wins. However, let’s be positive and give our men the moral support they deserve.

In closing, to all those Villagers who are supporters of English soccer you will have seen just how tight it is between the current top 5 clubs. It will take a brave man to predict a winner come May 2017!!

Here’s to a great week and a victory for the Boks on Saturday.
