Well, the UK tour for the Boks has turned out to be most difficult and memorable for all the wrong reasons. It will now be a huge challenge to stand up against Wales and push for a victory. The Ireland versus New Zealand match again provided for thrilling viewing and proved that once the basics of rugby union are mastered the rest follows. This coming Saturday will mark the end of the rugby season for South Africa when the Springboks meet Wales at the Millenium Stadium at 19h30. The Villager Clubhouse will again be open for those who would like to pop down to watch the match with the usual “Happy Hour” an hour before kickoff.

The last function of The Grays for the year proved to be a grand occasion. It took place on Friday 18 November exactly 1 year after the passing away of the great Villager John Gainsford. The guest speaker Keith Richardson, ex-headmaster Wynberg Boys’ High, delivered a wonderful speech with his key message being that of the importance and role of mentors in life. A big Villager thank you to Keith !

The team managements and players of the respective Villager teams are getting together for a braai on Saturday at 14h30 for an afternoon of “gees”. Thereafter, all will go on their seperate ways to enjoy the festive season before reporting back for the start of pre-season training on Monday 9 January 2017. In the meantime, all 3 fields (A,B and C) will be out of bounds until further notice.

Membership for Club 100 is now numbering 80, just 20 short of our target. If you do come into contact with Villagers who have not yet signed up, it will be appreciated if you could convince them to join up and assist in our drive to re-establish Villagers at the top.

If you would like to purchase a Villager FC padded jacket please contact Rameez at the  administration office. There are only 5 of these stylish jackets (2XL, 2XXL, 1XXXL) left at R460 a jacket.

That’s it for this week. Here’s wishing all the Villagers a great week. Hold thumbs for our Springboks against Wales and our Proteas against Australia in the day/night cricket test.
