Club News

It is hard to believe that another year has flashed by with so many past events, both good and bad, that the mind simply boggles. This will be the last Monday newsletter for 2016 with the next one appearing on Monday 16 January 2017.

Well, there certainly was something to cheer about this past weekend if you are a South African rugby supporter. The Blitsbokke were simply sensational particularly in their matches against New Zealand and Fiji. It was a wonderful achievement to win the opening Sevens Tournament in Dubai with a clear strategy and executed so well by all the players. Special mention must be made of Seabelo Senatla who ruthlessly exploits the smallest of spaces on the field and ended the Tournament as leading try scorer and Player-of-the-Tournament. Congratulations to Neil Powell and his team and may they enjoy similar success in Cape Town this coming weekend in their bid to retain the title they won last year.

England are making a statement under Eddie Jones which was evident as they dismantled Australia this past Saturday.  Eddie has put together the right balance between forwards and backs, between physicality and finesse, between running and kicking. There is now the possibility that England can go on to beat the All Blacks’ record of 18 consecutive test match victories.
