This past Saturday was disappointing from a Springbok supporter point of view as our team was soundly beaten. The intercept try (Australia should have scored then) did add respectability to the final score, but to be honest after our first try we never appeared to be able to create another try and rarely threatened the Aussie tryline. However, the Boks have been in this situation before and, when all has seemed lost, have stood up and produced an upset win. So let’s get behind our players in the green-and-gold again and give them that moral support that they are going to need in far-away Christchurch. It is going to require a superhuman effort, but the beauty of sport is that upsets do happen. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for an upset!
The clubhouse will again be open should those Villagers wish to make their way to Brookside to watch the Boks take on the All Blacks on Saturday. Kick off is at 09h35. We will be open from 09h00 and for R25 you can get a bacon-and-egg roll and a cup of coffee. The pub will also be open.
0n the club front, our Western Province clubs did us proud in the fiirst round of the Gold Cup (national club competition) this past Saturday – False Bay beat Durban Collegians 37 -19 and Durbanville-Bellville beat Old Selbornians 40 -14. Well done to these two clubs and the best of luck to them for their upcoming matches.
We wish you all an enjoyable week and remember that as the famous Vince Lombardi said “the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary”.
