Due to a number of contributing factors we have to announce that this years Derby Day which was set for the 20 June has been postponed to a later date. Please take note that it is not cancelled and a new date will be agreed upon by the Committees of both clubs.
With the desire from both Clubs Committee’s to ensure the Derby Day spirit is not lost it was decided not to link up Derby Day with the League fixture earlier this year and as such a new date that works for both clubs will now be agreed upon.
Villager FC President Bossie Clarke reiterated this point.
“Derby Day is a celebration of the two oldest rugby clubs in South Africa and we are proud of our heritage and friendship with Hamiltons. It is a special friendship that dates back many years and long may that continue.” He said.
“We unfortunately had to postpone this weekends fixture due to a number of factors, however we are committed to having the fixture albeit later in the year when both clubs are available.” Clarke continued.
For those that are familiar with the Derby Day always being in the pre-season, the last two years that Hamiltons has been involved in the Community Cup has enforced the change, however both Clubs Committee’s are looking at a solution to bring the Derby Day back into prominence in the early season moving forward.
We will announce more details about Derby Day as soon as they are finalised. Please note that tonight’s planned Derby Day special Club Night has been postponed however members are still welcome to join us at the bar for a few drinks.
