Villager FC have named their team to take on fifth on the log, NNK at Brookside in their Super B League fixture this Friday night, 23 August. Kick off at 21h00.
The previous encounter out in Parow was a physical affair and saw the Dirty Whites go down 25 – 7. NNK sitting fifth on the log look all but certain to be promoted at the end of the year, but will surely come out guns blazing looking for another win against the Dirty Whites that may allow NNK to move to fourth on the log.
Games against NNK are never easy and it looks set to be a tough and physical encounter, for which our boys are ready to face. Injuries are still a plague, however the gritty determination shown by the boys is encouraging. The last couple of weeks has seen the Dirty Whites find some form and composure and the tide is sure to start turning in their favour should they maintain the same attitude.
Team selection has remained for the most part consistent for the Dirty Whites over the last few weeks, although some key players are out with injury and some positional changes have been made, this should still enable the good run of improvement to continue. The Primrose game proved the side is on an upward curve reducing the first round score significantly and providing a glimmer of hope for the Brookside faithful.
Injuries have forced coaches, Bruce Fraser and Kirsten Marshall’s hand making three changes and two positional changes. At wing Ryan Massyn comes in for Donny Venter who moves to outside centre replacing Dylan Barkas who is out with injury. Ziyaad Fredericks comes in at Hooker for Jamie Kaiser who has moved to flank and Kwaks Ngwanya moves from flank to lock for injured Craig Davies. At scrumhalf Zubayr Abrahams comes in after an absence due to Eid, for Thabo Stone.
Should the Drity Whites hold off the expected forward assault, talented flyhalf Christo Terblanche should be able to express his full attacking arsenal and release the backline that are slowly proving to be a handful on attack. Centres Donny Venter and Yale Jameson will need to provide the go forward ball that is so vital in creating the momentum necessary for converting pressure into points.
Both teams have much to play for on Friday night at Brookside, Villager for its pride and aims to finish with momentum and NNK who will want to finish off the year in style before they are promoted to the re-formatted Super League A.
Supporters of both teams are welcomed to attend the famous Brookside Pub and Grill for refreshments and great banter before, during and after the games.
