3rd XV MATCH REPORT 23RD JULY 2016

Score: Villagers 24 Hands & Hearts 0

The game kicked off at 13h00 due to the Stormers game. Hands & Hearts only started with thirteen men. This somehow through Villagers off their game. Hands & Heart were playing like they had fifteen men on the field and put the home side under immense pressure. Villagers could not put together any decent phases. Halfway through the first half, Hands & Hearts managed to field a full team. Ironically this gave the home side a new lease of life. Phases were put together and the home side crossed the advantage line at will. The first try came from a kick through with Timmy Hendricks running full tilt down the right hand touch line to gather the ball and score. The try was unconverted, 5-0 to Villagers. Ten minutes later Anthony Dablanc through an inside dummy and ran 20 meters to score in the right hand corner. 10-0 to Villagers. The left wing Toughied Gilfellow made a couple of runs down the left but the defence of the visitors was up to the task.

The second half started with score at 10-0 to Villagers. Joe Williams controlled the game at fly half by putting his backline into gaps and turning the visitors with his kicks out of hand. Adrian Padua had a strong game at inside centre, hitting the gain line hard and drawing in two to three defenders to make the tackle. It was now time for the replacements to make a big impact on the game. Matthew Rockhill replaced Igshaan Allie at outside centre, Jason Geswindt replaced Toughied Gilfellow on the right wing and Abdul Dollie replaced Aurrilien Bauc at scrumhalf. What a return for Matthew, with his first touch of the ball he drew his man and put Jason away. Jason had a strong run down the left hand touch line, he showed his pace and strength by outstripping the defence. The try was converted by Abdul Dollie, 17-0. Five minutes later Matthew run off Joe’s outside shoulder to score the final try of the game. 24-0. All of this was thanks to the great work of the forward pack which gave the backline front foot ball to play off.
