Dear Villager Community,
You would probably have heard about the spinal injury sustained by Ryan ‘Gary’ Reaper, a member of the Shebeen Boys. The broader rugby community has rallied behind him under a massive campaign (#AllInForG”) which is raising money for both Gary and the Petro Jackson Chris Burger fund. It has been a tremendous display of brotherhood by the rugby fraternity and the effort continues to gain momentum.
As part of this campaign, Michael Charton has kindly offered to tell the story of the 1937 Springboks in the week leading up to the All Black test match. It is a remarkable and little-known story about a motley crew of memorable characters, including 4 Villager Players, who came together on a five month tour of New Zealand to form (arguably) the greatest ever Springbok team. See PDF Invite – Click HERE.
Michael has told the story primarily for corporates over the last two years, with amazing feedback. This will no-doubt be a memorable evening for the club and by all accounts you’ll experience the Springbok/All Black rivalry in a whole new light.
Please come out on Tuesday night the 21st of July to support Gary and the cause; and to share a few beers over a good old rugby story.
The talk is about 75 minutes and will start after practice on the Tuesday allowing for the players to join, so aiming for a 7:30 start. However, we are appealing to the broader friends of the club to come out and join in support. The cost is R50 for players and R100 for others. 100% of these takings are being donated to the campaign. Numbers are limited, so please RSVP to Ross Williams on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summary of the details:
Date: Tuesday, July 21st
Price: R100 pp (R50 for players)
Look forward to seeing you there!
