On the 15th March 2016 Villager Football Club extended an invite to the Lagunya Rugby Football Club, a community Rugby Club which has merged from the teams in Langa, Gugulethu and Nyanga townships, to participate in a training session at Villager Football Club, Brookside. The training session was headed up by Paul Reeves, the new Director of Rugby for the club.
After the training session both teams, along with the President of both clubs, Bossie Clarke (Villager Football club) and Titus Kepadise (Lagunya Rugby Football Club), headed up to the clubhouse for a small presentation.
At the presentation, Paul handed over all the kit from previous years to Lagunya to assist them in their already great efforts of bringing the community together and getting more boys playing rugby.
In his speech, Titus commented on how he felt that this was the beginning of a great relationship between the two clubs and extended an invite to all the Villager Players to join the team at Nyanga Cricket Club where the team currently trains, to train with his team in the near future.
Paul ended the evening summing up “It is an absolute pleasure to meet a fellow local rugby club. Rugby is played competitively at so many levels. Over my career I was very fortunate to travel around the world playing this amazing game and I have found that there are a few things that always seem to be on the same level when it comes to rugby – respect; camaraderie and friendships that stand the test of time. I hope that our relationship with Lagunya Rugby Club is one that too will stand the test of time”.
