Launch of the 1876 Match Day Lunches

After somewhat of a delay in getting our structures in place, we are finally pleased to announce that the first 1876 Club Match Day Luncheon will be held on the 02 May before the Club takes on Tygerberg RFC at Brookside in their third round SLA fixture.

The lunch is partly based on the success of The Grays luncheons in 2014 as well as on the Richmond luncheon the 2014 Rugby Committee attended on their trip to London last year. With Dennis Nick having driven the lunches last year, the Committee realised the need for them to continue and open up to the rest of the club to ensure that our members are able to reconnect with each other as well as create a new match day tradition at Brookside.

The first Lunch will be a great opportunity for members to see the newly formed ‘1876 Club’ in action and hear about it’s purpose and intentions from our Chairman and President, Bruce Fraser and Bossie Clarke.

Bruce Fraser, the current Villager Chairman, believes the lunches will become a great tradition at Brookside. “From our experience at Richmond last year we know the appeal that these lunches have, our only challenge now is to steadily grow the concept and encourage our members to attend at least one lunch per year.” He said.

“We will also be inviting the opposition Chairman and President to these lunches in an attempt to create a festive atmosphere and build friendships between the clubs before the 1st XV run onto the field. That is what club rugby is all about.” Fraser continued.

All our members past and present are welcome to attend the lunches together with their significant others, and may book a table of 10 should there be the need. The clubhouse can only accommodate 120 so it will come down to a first come first serve basis. Our sponsors and Gold Club members will be given the first priority for these lunches, and should there be a waiting list we will invite those members who missed out for the next lunch.

We have attached an online RSVP form below, please fill it in and click submit once you’ve filled in your details so that we can book your place and make sure no one misses out!
