After last week’s appalling conditions the weather gods have blessed us with perfect winter weather, cool crisp and calm conditions are the order of this evening. However, this shall not be the feeling on the field for tonight’s clash.
Helderberg have the unfortunate task of travelling down the N2 and playing at Villager. As always, this shall be a titanic battle upfront as some of the leagues bigger player look to assert dominance early on.
Upfront we have an all new front row with James, Eben and our very own JD Waddie spearheading the forwards, Rikki “Stix” and Devon “Uncle Fester” Canning find themselves at 4 and 5. The loosies will look to use the tight 5’s pressure to their advantage, David Petersen, Petri Coetzee and Karl ‘megatron’ Springorum will be looking to make a full tackle bursting runs and get the backs some good go forward ball.
Yusri and Spongebob will continue to establish themselves in the 9 and 10 jerseys and will be looking for some good clean ball to unleash the backs tonight, Matt Corke in the 12 jersey will be looking for some line breaks, Gerard ‘Gerrie’ Petersen returns to the Fourths at 13 and will be using his vast experience of the game to his advantage to out fox the defence out wide. JJ and Zunaid will be hungry for some ball tonight as the weather shall be more favourable than last week for their fleet footed running. Foxy retains the 15 jersey and one hopes he has kicking compass in order tonight and get the ball out in the right direction
Tonight’s bench is a classic 6-1 split as we see Jason ‘Miley’ Mans, Matty B, who I am told has recovered from his diseased tattoo, Chris ‘The Fish is Shoaling’ Wilkingson provide cover for the front 3, Warren ‘Wazzatee’ Taylor will once again be coming on as super sub to steal a few lineouts in the latter stages of the game. Ryan Povey returns to the team after a short break as super sub and Taufeeq ‘Franky’ de Villiers returns from a hamstring injury to round off the backs.
Tonight’s kick-off is at 8pm, weather shall be a tad chilly but dry.
