As we end off another week we once again find ourselves dragging our worn out minds down to the rugby club, however this week is an auspicious occasion, one that will go down in history, an evening that will be talked about long after our time, yes folks Friday Night Lights has returned to Villagers and the Field of Dreams with an almighty double header.
To kick things off The Fourths are taking on the clever boys from UCT, MC Marais. This game always proves to be an exciting encounter. The slightly younger, more athletic students vs the slightly less athletic looking, but don’t let these looks deceive you, men from Villager. Be sure to hang around as our brothers in arms are taking on the Goodwood Rebels
Tonight we see a few new gents pulling on The Fourths Jersey for the 1st time and a return to action for a few old faces. Upfront pulling on the no.3 jersey is DJ Waddie for his debut appearance; he’ll be joining Adam ‘Fathead” Van Niekerk and Damo Johnstone. Supporting the engine room will be Dev ‘Uncle Fester’ and Rikki ‘Stix’ Lotter. On the sides of the scrum Dave Petersen pulls on the 6 Jersey with Kevin ‘I have so many nicknames now we don’t know what to call me’ Spiby in the unfamiliar yet not so unfamiliar position while playing wearing the 7 jersey, Karl “Megatron” Springorum has returned from his stint in the backline to fill the no.8.
Yusri Williams will be distributing the ball from the no.9 position and returning from his stint at the Monaco Grand Prix, some say he caused Max Verstappen to crash by enticing him with a few tequilas and a quick brandy during the pitstop, none other than Jono Mackenzie. The all new centre pairing with Fourths debutant Alain Klein pulls on the 12 and joining him in the 13 jersey is Matt ‘Awky Corky’ Corke. Then, in the speed department we find Zunaid Kapery and JJ ‘Adam named is kid after me’ Smale and the last line of defence shall be none other the Gareth ‘Foxy’ Fox.
Warming the bench we have our very own dirty fisherman, Mark Felgate, joining him with front row cover is Eben Daniels. Warren ‘Wazzatee’ Taylor adds a few centimetres to the average height of the team albeit by sitting warmly in this increasingly familiar position on the bench. The ever useful Jacques ‘Lofty’ Loftus will be covering a myriad of positions tonight and lastly Juan ‘one more’ Damian Harris is the only cover for the backs tonight – hint hint we need more back reserves.
Kick-off is scheduled for 19.15 on the field of dreams
On another note, we all know rugby is a dangerous sport and accidents do happen. Tonight we pay homage to a Shebeen boy who was badly injured last week while on the field of duty. “Gary” Ryan Reaper we wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you down on the field soon
