Way back in 2007, the old guard of the Fourths.com , Graham Lindemann, Anton van Vlaanderen and Anthony Burns were looking to play a friendly game of rugby during their mid – season break, they stumbled upon a “Shebeen Boys Rugby Club” on the internet and the date was set for what is still a thriving rivalry between the two sides.
Throughout the years we have tested each other’s sporting skills in 7s, waterpolo, soccer and the classic rugby clashes on the Green Mile and at Villagers and the results have been an even affair.
Tonight is no different, as these two great Reserve League sides take each other on again on the hallowed Field of Dreams at Villager FC.
After a rather disappointing season to date for both teams, bragging rights are on offer in a clash of the titans.
So to get down to business, these 22 fine specimens will be gracing the field to get the elusive W tonight.
Our forward pack will be looking to demolish Shebeen’s pack, and with James ‘I’m too small to play prop’ Rouessart, Adam ‘Fat Head’ Van Niekerk and Jason ‘Miley Cyrus; Mans, the been boys are in for a long 60 minutes on the park.
Locking it up behind them we have got Dave ‘I don’t have a nickname for you yet’ Swart and Devon ‘Uncle Fester/V8s/Where the Fuck have you been’ Canning who will be stealing ball a plenty this evening.
Our loose trio consists of Ryan ‘I’m the fastest guy in the team’ Povey, Rikki ‘I look good in the shower’ Lotter and Petri ‘wit buffel ‘Coetzee.
Our backline has some new flavor this week, but with Yusri ‘show stopper’ Williams and Kevin ‘SpongeBob’ Spiby they will look to get the backline firing on all cylinders.
The centers sees a new combo featuring Kiefer ‘ X factor’ Smith and JJ ‘ just give me the ball’ Smale who will be looking to give the much needed go-forward ball to unleash the back three.
Our tried and tested wingers are Juan ‘Juan Hammy’ Damian- Harris and newly dubbed Zunaid ‘The Gre-naider ‘ Kapery for his love of dropping full bombs of beer on down down, followed by full-back Warren ‘ I’ll see you at Oblivion later’ Sargeant. These 3 will be looking to Shake-n-Bake all night long.
The reserves will be chomping at the bit to get some game time and with Walid ‘ DJ for the evening’ Hosameldin, Eben ‘ man of the match’ Daniels and Mathew ‘ look at my kiff tattoo’ Bannatyne, they will bring some fresh legs to the game in the second half.
Next up we have Jacques ‘half an eyebrow’ Loftus and Rabbie ‘I’m ashamed to be a Blue Bulls supporter’ Maphakela.
Rounding up the reserves we have Alain ‘I ain’t no centre’ Klein and Graham ‘I’ll put you in a gap’ Wallace who will run circles round the Beenies late in the game.
As always, the after match festivities will be second to none, and the decision to have a combined fines meeting in the bar after the match will surely get everyone in the mood to party the night away into the early hours of Saturday morning.
