MATCH REPORT: vs Shebeen Boys

The 2014 season got off with a mouth watering clash against fellow village side the 5ths aka shebeen boys at the brookside on a damp wednesday evening for our first home game of the season and what a game it turned out to be. #ftf

The first half started off with The doing a lot of defending in our own 22m, which wouldn’t have been the way we would of liked to have started and with Shebeen having most of the ball, they managed to cross our line for the first time in the game. 0-7

Not long after the restart the fourths found themselves in the same position behind the poles watching the conversion 0-14

Most teams would have sat back and tried to do some damage control, but the fourths arnt most teams and surged foward with some great foward interplay to see yours truly Spanish go over for our first 7 pointer of the game, Jono “Chinwag””Rapey Eyes” slotted the extra’s, 7-14.

With not long to go in the first half the fourths kept good position of the ball and with some ill discipline from the opposition managed to work our way towards the goal line, with a kick tap and some quick recycling of the ball, Juan “More” crossed the white line in the left corner with a great tv dive. With a long kick from the corner Jono managed to slot the extra 2 at the half.

14-14 at the break.

The second half started were the 1st half ended no team giving an inch, they didn’t earn.
The Fourths managed to get on the score board first in the 2nd half, with another quick tap and saw our captain Adam “Fathead””Dad” go over for the teams 3rd try of the evening.
Jono converted the try to keep an 100% record. 21-14

With a fourth try bonus point just on the other side of the line the fourths let there defence slip and this saw the shebeen boys make the most of it and crossed the white wash for their 3rd try of the evening, conversion was pushed wide. 21-19.

The last 5minutes saw lots of guts and determination by the fourths to keep out shebeen boys and record the first victory of the season and not the last…..

Thanks to all the supporters who came out during the week on a wet evening, this Friday sees The taking a trip to the Strand to take on Helderberg on Friday evening,#ftf

Sadly our fullback injured himself him when performing a try saving tackle during the game, this was a game changer considering how close the game was. Get better soon Sarge.
