On Friday 22 May The Fourths.com faced the Goodwood Renegades. This was to be the sixth encounter of the season for the Fourths and a do or die situation for the mighty side after coming off five consecutive losses.
With an experimental back line supporting our solid pack the Fourths kicked off at Goodwood’s pristine fields with weather that could not be better for rugby.
Both sides fought hard, with The Fourths looking hungry for that elusive W, big running hits up front by the likes of Jason “Miley” Mans and Petri “The Wit Buffel” Coetzee it looked like that W was on its way, coupled with full loads of buses being brought in by Karl “Megatron” and Matt Corke (a new centre pairing reminding me of The Bash Brothers from the 90’s hit movie The Mighty Ducks starring the might duck himself Emilio Esteem), with over 215kgs behind them it was pure physics Velocity X Mass = people eating dirt, and elusive running by the missed magician himself Graham putting in the hard yards, as well as JJ putting in a solid performance out wide with fantastic counterattacking, made it look like the The Fourths were in it to win it.
This went slightly off track with Goodwood scoring three tries one of which of a loose pass and their kicker really coming to the party slotting a couple of beauts from tight angels.
Looking through all 60 min the Fourths had about 70% territory and possession but poor support running and slipped tackles lead to the inevitable lose.
Devon Canning scored a concellation try after a well worked forward drive on his second game back for the season and second outstanding performance.
The boys are hungry and know that on the 29th against MC Marais for the double header there is no other option than the win.
Final score 22-7
