A glut of possession and a significant upper-hand in both set pieces was not enough to lay the foundation for a Villager win over Hamlets u20’s. Dreadful decision making and a lack of urgency being the standout issues with Saturday’s “display”.
An early score from the home team was cancelled out by a Kye Bowerman reply, using his physicality to brush the defense aside and bash over for the score. An excellently executed backline move saw Kevin Lock hit the line at pace with the hard running Junaide Christians off-loading perfectly for the fullback to run over untouched. Bowerman added the conversion, to put the Vikings in the lead. That joy was short lived as a handling error allowed the opposition to counter and nearly score in the corner, had it not been for the cover defense of Lock. This was merely putting off the inevitable and the home side capitalised on yet another handling discretion to go over and into the lead 15 – 12 just before the break. The score remained the same till the end, as did the poor Villager performance.
Hamlets u20 15 – 12 VFC u20
