Villager u20’s hosted a highly motivated Rangers, in their first home league match of the season (first game of the season, Macassar forfeited). Looking to entertain the many fans who braved the chilly conditions, the boys didn’t disappoint. An early try from Joel Murphy in the corner, was preceded by some intelligent build up play and slick hands from the inside backs.
The early score seemed to motivate the boys from Surrey Estate even more and for most of the first half, the Vikings were on the back foot, defending like Trojans. After who knows, how many phases, on the Villager line, a loose ball was hacked ahead and between Kye “Torres” Bowerman and Vernon “Drogba” Hazam, they managed to dribble the length of the pitch to score on the counter.
Two penalties from the opposition saw Villager leading 14 – 6 at the break. A solid second half performance that was categorised by tenacious defense and some silky handling skills saw the Boys-from-Brookside run in three unanswered tries to secure the bonus point.
A much anticipated match awaits the Vikings next week, when the host the much vaunted Brackenfell juggernaut.
