The Faure Street Stadium played host to the SLB u20 fixture between the hosts, Young Peoples and the traveling Villager Football Club.
Despite dominating every aspect of the first half, playing into a slight breeze accompanied by intermittent driving rain, the unbeaten Vikings made heavy weather of proceedings. An abject first half display saw the boys from Brookside change ends 8 – 0 down, after conceding an intercept try and penalty.
The second half started much like the previous half an hour, with the Villager play riddled with handling errors and indecision. However, the mark of a good side is, one which is able to grind out a bonus point victory, despite having an off day. This is exactly what the Vikings went about doing. Wave after wave of attack battered the opposition try line. Had it not been for the many handling errors the final score could well have been somewhat more convincing. VFC ran in some good tries with special mention once again going to the pack for their overall dominance and discipline in the face of some robust opposition.
Next week the Vikings take on the high flying Collegians side who will no doubt be our toughest test of a pleasing season thus far. Hard work and dedication is required this week from the guys, if they are to maintain their league standing.
