This past Friday again saw a full house of results as all our teams walked away victorious against the Violets RFC. The results were as follows:
1XV won 31 – 25.
2XV won 64 – 0.
3XV won 22 – 0.
Under 20A awarded (according to WPRFU regulations) a 20 – 0 victory as the Voilets players did not arrive with the necessary player registration cards.
The 1XV had to dig deep to ensure victory under difficult cirumstances, but in the end prevailed and victory was assured with a bonus point. Before the match Anton Chait did the jersey handover and also gave a team talk with much meaning. Thanks Anton for your time and sincere words.
This Saturday will be the club’s last league match of the season against the Bellville RFC at Bellville. It will be a tough away fixture for all our teams, but be assured that all the teams will be doing everything possible to end the league season on a winning note. The league season will be followed by the President Cup Competition which will commence on 3 September 2016. We will keep you informed about the fixtures of this knockout competition.
It is hard to believe that the 2016 club rugby season is drawing to a close. The 140th chapter in the rich history of this famous club is about to be concluded. And it does not matter in the end whether the teams won, drew or lost. What does matter, and we sincerely hope it is so, is that the club enriched the lives of those young men who were privileged to wear the white jersey and who are now all a part of the Villager family.
Congratulations to the South African Olympians who won medals and also to the other South African participating athletes who gave their all and kept the South African flag flying high. Also, congratulations to Allister Coetzee and the Springboks on their opening victory against Argentina in the Rugby Championship. It was not perfect and sterner test matches lie ahead, but a test match win is nothing to sneeze at and the Springboks will get better as the Rugby Championship progresses.
In closing, we hope you all have an enjoyable week which will seem somewhat strange in not being able to “flick on” and watch the Rio Olympics.
