The mid-season break has allowed the Vikings the opportunity to recharge their batteries and hopefully return rejuvenated and ready to finish what they, as a squad set about achieving for the 2014 season. Laying second on the log seven points adrift, with a game in hand, there is still plenty to play for in the second half of the season.
Some superb spells of rugby highlighted a rather subdued first half showing. All too often the players seemed to lack the killer instinct in not putting teams away. Despite not being ruthless enough, the guys have shown an amazing development, both individually and as a unit. The stand out performers so far have been Jason Marcus (in the WP u21 Currie Cup match 22), Joel Murphy (Griquas u19 Currie Cup squad) and the ‘born again’ Junaide Christians. In the forwards, the ever present, Dan Searle, has lead from the front, ably supported by Allie Williams, Imaad Soeker and Kye Bowerman.
With five league games remaining, there is plenty of work still to be done in maintaining their log position and perhaps even challenge for higher honours.
