UWC looms large for the Dirty Whites

Villager FC head coach, Bruce Fraser, has named his team to take on the powerful University of the Western Cape (UWC) in their Super League B clash on Thursday 8 August. Kick off 9pm.

The University side, sitting third on the log, have only lost one game and this looks set to continue after they convincingly beat the Dirty Whites 53 – 13 in their first round fixture at UWC. Coached by former Springbok coach, Peter De Villiers, UWC have grown from strength to strength this year, ensuring the Dirty Whites have a massive challenge ahead of them.

The Dirty Whites, coming off a defeat last week at the hands of Kuils River, were hoping to reduce their own silly errors that have become a hallmark of their game this season, ensuring any territorial or physical advantages have been null and void. The coaches, Bruce Fraser and Kirsten Marshall, firmly believe their charges have improved this season and have every chance of capturing their second win of the season, however their inability to control possession and stick to their game plan has proved to be their undoing on many an occasion this year.

Fraser has shown faith in his selections from last week and has named an almost unchanged side with only two enforced changes and one positional switch. Tighthead prop Jarrod Amon moves into the starting team after Adrian Cleophas had to pull out due to family commitments and Vukile Ntsobi comes in for the injured Edward Ntaka while Kwaks Ngwanya moves from flank to eighthman. The players coming in have an immense task ensuring they continue the physical dominance in the forwards that the Dirty Whites have enjoyed in the last few games.

The Villagers faithful will be looking to the big ball carriers such as loosehead prop Gary Frank and Sean Mollentze to lay the platform for scrumhalf Christo Terblanche to play his natural game and allow the backs the freedom to have a crack at the bigger UWC players. Flyhalf Tim Marsh has proved to be the find of the season for the Dirty Whites where his boot and tactical awareness has ensured better direction on attack and brings a calmness and maturity to an extremely young team.

The Dirty Whites have only pride to play for this season, but the importance of each game cannot be understated as the side from Brookside will want to finish the year on a high, laying a platform from which incoming coach Gunner Hughes can use to begin the clubs accent back into the Super League A.

Supporters of the club, old and new, are invited to attend the game at Brookside and enjoy the famous Villager FC hospitality at the Brooksider Pub and Grill.
