After the catastrophic injury suffered by one of our players, Ryan ‘Gary’ Reaper, the Shebeen Boys and Villager FC rallied together in support of Ryan and launched the #ALLinForG Campaign to raise awareness and funds for the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players Fund. Last night’s success was the culmination of the awareness the Campaign has generated thus far.
Although the #ALLinForG Cmapiagn started as a small gesture by the Shebeen Boys by wearing special t-shirts, the campaign has quickly morphed into a large awareness campaign that has already raised over R25 000 for the Chris Burger Fund by virtue of having sold over 250 t-shirts, with another 100 being announced soon. With the addition of special caps and wrist bands, combined with the bar proceeds from last night, the Campaigns goals have quickly become more ambitious.
With over 100 people packed inside a dark Villagers pub last night due to Load Shedding, the spirit of the evening was not lost and with most in attendance wearing the #ALLinForG t-shirts the success of last night will have far reaching effects in furthering the Campaigns fundraising efforts.
The evening was bolstered by guest speaker Clint Readhead from SARU and Boksmart who spoke on behalf of the Chris Burger Petro Jakson Players Fund and explained the long road Ryan has ahead of him and ways in which all of Villagers community can help him. He gave thanks to the #ALLinForG Campaign and all that it is doing in raising awareness and funds.
The Shebeen Boys, lead by Kyle Wiliamson and Richard Stemmet, spoke to gave thanks to all that have helped the Campaign and spoke on behalf of Ryan who is still in hospital, and encouraged the Villager community to continue their efforts in raising awareness of the campaign. Their passion for the Campaign and for helping their friends was obvious and it is hugely encouraging having guys like them at the club.
Finally we would like to thank those that joined us last night especially Clint ReadHead, Gail and Laura from the Chris Burger Players Fund and the celebrities and rugby personalities that have aided in raising awareness of the campaign by providing us with videos. We’d also like to give a huge thank you to Nexus who saved the day with a generator at the last minute!
