It’s that time of the year again when we are fast-approaching the Villager School Sevens.
This year will see the introduction of an Old Boys’ Sevens tournament on the Thursday before the Villager School Sevens. On Thursday 1 September 2016 an Old Boys’ team from each of Rondebosch Boys, SACS, Wynberg Boys and Bishops will do battle for the Nick Trophy. Matches will commence at Brookside at 18:30 on a league format. Each team will play 3 matches and the event will end with the trophy presentation in the clubhouse at 21:15. We hope that there will be as much frivolity on the field as there is certain to be in the clubhouse at the conclusion of the matches.
Then on Friday 2 September 2016, starting at 13:40, 24 schools will participate in the 48th Villager School Sevens Tournament. It is a remarkable record for a school tournament that has continued each year since 1968. Who would have thought then that in 2016 Sevens Rugby would be part of the Olympic Games and that the captain of the South African Sevens Team would be captained by Kyle Brown, a SACS Old Boy. The Villager School Sevens is a great testament to the founders of 48 years ago and it remains a source of great pride for the Villager FC.
We hope to see a great turnout of Villagers to both tournaments which very much represent the fabric of the Villager culture – reaching out to schools and communities and providing fun-filled entertainment for the whole family.
