It’s going down to the wire! Before this past Saturday the 1XV needed 6 points from their last 2 league matches. The players gave there all against Kuils River, but unfortunately came up short 31 – 36. But they did secure 2 bonus points for scoring 4 tries and losing within 7 points. So it’s now 4 points from the last match away to Violets and its just about a win – bonus points are irrelevant. Preparation will be important this week and nothing less than 100% focus from each and every player will be required. In actual fact, at this stage of the season it will be about mental toughness and about “how much do you actually want that win!!!!!” Good luck to the 1XV players for this coming Saturday – all Villagers are behind you!!
The season has again brought home the important values of playing a team game like rugby. The coaches, managers, biokinetists, fitness and conditioning coaches, physios, players, administrators, committee members are, despite their differences, one team and all part of the Villager FC. There will be sensitivities during the course of a season, but nothing which open and transparent debate cannot solve. Once the commitment has been made at the beginning of the season, then there is no turning back until the last match is played. Responsibility is key together with sacrifice and character despite things not always going according to the way you want it. It can never be about “me” and always has to be about the club.
On the provincial and international front, there were stellar performances from the Western Province and Springbok teams. South African rugby is blessed with incredible young talent and one only hopes that the lure of the pound and the euro will not see them depart these shores. It will get some getting used to when the Springboks play in their red outfit against Argentina on Saturday – let’s hope that the Argentinians don’t see red!
A reminder that if you have not yet entered for the annual Villager Golf Day at Rondebosch Golf Club on Thursday 31 August 2017, please contact Kim at email@example.com or 0832358033. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, there are many known Villager golfers who have not yet entered. Let’s show our true Villager colours and make it a day to remember.
Well, that’s it. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a 1XV victory and remember to send out positive Villager vibes on Saturday at 16h00.
