Villager Voice #11
The last two weeks have been good ones for the club with the 1st team continuing its winning streak and the general good vibes continue to roll in. It has been amazing to witness the resurgence of support for our club and for this we thank you all. Let’s get into it.
Rangers and Brackenfell at home
On Friday 23 May we once again experienced a first ever for Villager with a fixture against Rangers. After having an extended away run it was great to be back at home again and this showed with the overwhelming support that rolled in through the front gates. The games were all competitive and clean with the guys enjoying their Friday Night Lights. The results:
1st team: W 29 – 23
2nd team: W 15 – 12
3rd team: W 19 – 7
u/20: W 35 – 6
The first team once again dominated all facets but struggled to turn their domination into points with a number of handling errors and very clever tactics in the lineouts by our opponents that nullified our powerful driving maul. These two areas kept Rangers in the game and resulted in the game ending off as a real humdinger. Thanks to two great solo efforts by Daniel Clarke and Jannie Bester the Dirty Whites emerged victors amid scenes that replicated a Premier League football match as the local crowd went crazy. It must be said that the guts the guys displayed to pull this one out of the bag was honourable and shows their determination and passion towards the famous white jersey. The man of the match for this one was our solid and workhorse flanker – Andrew Wilkins.

Last Saturday we were fortunate enough to be at home again and this time on a Saturday. There is nothing like a Saturday afternoon fixture at Brookside against age old rivals Brackenfell. With another Renaissance lunch on the go and much excitement as to whether the firsts can continue their unbeaten run this was always going to be a cracker. The U20s also had a top of the table clash and were further invigorated with their fixture being played as the curtain raiser to the first team. The results for the day:
1st team: W 8 6
2nd team: D 13 13
3rd team: L 12 18
u/20: L 18 22
4th team: L 10 24 (False Bay)
5th team: L 17 19 (UCT)
The ominous rain clouds, the gusting North Westerly wind were catalysts for what turned out to be a tight and messy game. Both sides struggled to find any momentum or stamp their authority on the game. Many hearts were put under strain in the final 10 minutes but our boys in White pulled through to record their 7th successive win, 8-6, which puts them top of the log in the league. It’s a tough, unpredictable league and the Dirty Whites have acknowledged the need to assert themselves more clinically moving forward. The Club cannot express enough the pride it has in this band of brothers, whom have taken the heritage, and all that it means, to heart and are bringing success back to Brookside. Man of the match for this week goes to our fearless leader Ashley Clarke. Please see below our profile on our captain.

We will be having another one this season so please look out for it. Please see below some pics from the day.

Details to follow in June but in the meantime please keep the night open. It will be a proper club dinner with players, coaches, managers, committee and members from all generations.
Club Night
We have had another 2 weeks of no shows for the elusive bar tab.Our unlucky winners were Vincent Lederle (who should know better as our 4th team Chairman) and David Radloff (our 1st team inside centre). This leaves us sitting at a massive R1,200 bar tab up for grabs.
We have also had one raffle winner in the last two weeks with Aya Jolobe walking away with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black.
