Villager Voice 2018 – 015

Dear Villager

The month of May is going to be crucial in our preparation for our return to Super League A on Saturday 2 June 2018. To date we are still awaiting the fixtures from the WPRFU for the delayed season. This coming Saturday 12 May 2018 we will play Brackenfell RFC at SACS Junior School – ¬†kickoff for the 2XV is at 14h00 and for the 1XV at 15h30. Thereafter, it’s back to the club to enjoy the Saggy Stone Villager bar specials and the music of DJ Dean. No doubt that the Villager spirit will prevail well into the night!

Thank you to those members who attended the Special General Meeting last Thursday. It was good to welcome the President, Exco members and CEO of the WPRFU at Brookside. The meeting was well led by our President, Anton Chait, and the contributions from the members present were constructive. The meeting ended with the membership body in favour of the WPRFU proposed development of the B and C Fields. Further details will be forthcoming as the project gathers momentum.

The issue of memberships needs to be again mentioned as we are still 24 members short of the 2017 membership number. Villagers has fantastic facilities – new clubhouse, new floodlights, great A Field, gym, medical rooms – which is the envy of many clubs. We have an unparalleled history and tradition going all the way back to 1876, famous Springboks, Western Province and club players – and yet there is an apathy towards the club. It is baffling!! R500-00 for the year is not even 1 weekly grocery shop and subs are so very vital to the financial well-being and existence of any club. THANK YOU to those members who have paid their annual subscriptions – your caring for Villagers is sincerely appreciated. To those members who have simply not “got around” to paying, please do so as the season commences on 2 June 2018.

The Villager FC has been most fortunate to secure the England Head Coach, Eddie Jones, as a guest speaker at Brookside on Thursday 21 June 2018 at 19h30. It will certainly be a most interesting and entertaining evening as it is two days before the Test Match at Newlands between the Springboks and England. Tickets will be limited to 200 people and final information regarding the evening will be forwarded shortly. This should not be missed!!

In closing, please diarise Derby Day on Saturday 26 May 2018. It will be a bumper day and will be a week before our first league match. Thereafter it will be a league match virtually every week to make up for the lost time caused by the water crisis – a very busy rugby programme from June to October. And we will need all the Villager support!!!!!

Kind regards.

Rob Wagner.
