Villager Voice 2018 – 020

Dear Villager

What a Saturday! What a Derby Day! Everything that is good about club rugby was witnessed on Saturday – respect, cameraderie, competitiveness, rivalry, friendship. Brookside, blessed with a wonderful, sunny autumn day was at its best with a field and clubhouse to be proud of. Action on the playing fields, laughter and fun in the clubhouse, kiddies playing on the jungle gym all made for a special day.

The Villagers 1XV and 2XV went down and our 3XV and U20A ended up victors. Hamiltons showed us the way as we build towards the future. Their top teams are very good and this is a result of leadership, player continuity and passionate past players. A club cannot simply be built on tradition and history and needs members who are the backbone of any club. That is why there has been this plea to all Villagers to renew their annual subcription memberships so as to build our club and keep it healthy. For a club of the stature of Villagers to have less than 100 members is incredulous. We need to be like a Hamiltons or False Bay who through their off-field support are able to consistently vie for top league honours.

This coming Saturday 2 June 2018 we begin our league campaign with a home match against a top team in Durbanville-Bellville. We could not have asked for a more challenging start, but the players are relishing the challenge of the Super League A. It’s going to be difficult, but with the support of the whole club the difficulty becomes that much easier. Times for the matches are as follows :
16h00 A Field 1XV
14h40 A Field 2XV
13h25 A Field U20A

Thank you all for the support for the Eddie Jones talk on 21 June 2018. We are almost sold out and, therefore, if you are still wanting to attend please contact Kim du Plessis ( before it’s too late. It will be a special evening and our own Neal Hatley (England forward coach) will also be our guest.

That’s it for this week which was heralded in by soaking rain – may there be many more cold fronts!!  Please diarise this coming Saturday and come down to Brookside to support our men in white against Durbanville-Bellville.

Kind regards.

Rob Wagner.
