After a bye this past Saturday we resume our league fixtures at Brookside against Belhar this coming Saturday 30 June 2018. The matches are as follows:
1XV A Field 16h00.
2XV A Field 14h40.
U20A A Field 13h25.
This is a must-win game and there will be pressure on the players to perform. But sport is about pressure and this is when a team’s character must come to the fore if you want to be a winner. We are confident that our teams have got what it takes and that they are focussed and commited to the VFC! We really would like to see a large number of Villager supporters down on Saturday as the teams need your support when playing at home. There are no games at schools nor at Newlands, the Test Matches are now something of the past and so all roads lead to Brookside. C’mon down and enjoy the fun and cameraderie of Villagers.
Last Thursday the Villager FC again staged a first class function of note. The Eddie Jones and Neal Hatley talk was out of the top drawer and all aspects of the evening were thoroughly enjoyed by all in the packed out clubhouse. It was interesting to observe during the Test Match at Newlands aspects which Eddie had touched on in his talk, for example, the captaincy of Owen Farrel and the play of the young flanker Tom Curry. The standard of the function was in keeping with the fine image of the Villager FC and again demonstrated the high standing of our club in the world of rugby. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to make it such a special evening.
Our own Villager, Gary Gold, as Head Coach of the national USA rugby team has now won 8 internationals in a row, the last 2 being against Scotland and Canada. Well done Gary and we hope you go on to win many, many more. Neal Hatley, a past Villager 1XV captain, and the forward coach of England also deserves our congratulations even though it was at the expense of the Springboks on Saturday. Well done Neal!
A reminder to the Club 100 members of the get-together in the clubhouse on Tuesday 26 June at 19h30. Our guests are Neil De Kock (ex-Springboks, Stormers, WP and Saracens) and Justin Melck (ex-Stormers, WP and Saracens). The 1XV members will be present. It should be interesting to hear their views especially in light of the past England tour.
The Villager FC still needs to up its non-player membership. There were so many “members” at the Eddie Jones function who have yet to pay the annual subscription of R500 only. Please gentlemen, we do need your support and again request that you look kindly upon your club. After all, when you were players there were past players who paid their subscriptions so that you could enjoy your rugby at Brookside. Let’s do the same for the current generation of Villager players!!
Good to see the sun again, but thankfully Wednesday will see rain again. Just have to keep filling those catchment dams. All of the best for the week.
