Villager Voice 2018 – 038

Dear Villager

The 2018 WP Club rugby season has one more Saturday of matches which will determine the winners of the respective leagues. The Maties will play Durbanville-Bellville in the Super League A Final and it remains to be seen whether the “Maroon Machine” can be stopped this season. Congratulations must go to Durbanville-Bellville who have qualified to play in the Gold Cup – the national club competition which excludes the universities.

Brookside remains busy despite the fact that the season has ended for Villagers. Barleycorn music on Mondays, the Gym Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays , 6 Down Touch on Wednesdays and the many “outside functions” keeps the facility alive. The Springbok Test Matches on the big screen has also seen a good vibe in the clubhouse and this past Saturday saw a good attendance cheering the Boks on to victory. Pop down to Villagers this coming Saturday and watch the match between the Boks and All Blacks at Loftus. Bring your family along – the food and drink that you can enjoy from the Saggy Stone Villager Pub & Grill whilst watching the match is first class!! And don’t forget the Test Matches in November when the Springboks play in the Northern Hemisphere on 3, 10, 17, 24 November!!

Starting Wednesday 17 October 2018 at 19h30 will be Music Quiz Nights in the clubhouse.  Teams of 6 (R50 per person) can do battle to the Music Quiz of Charlie Marais. Specials from the Saggy Stone Villager Pub & Grill will be 1,7 l beer jug for R75 and any 2 pizzas for R120. Come along, test your music knowledge and have fun with friends.

For those of you who are golf lovers, you could not have asked for anything better than the Ryder Cup these past few days. For sheer excitement, emotion, team camaraderie and spectator participation there can be nothing better. Also, the Springboks again put their hands up even though not at their best. And WP remain the pace setters in the Currie Cup as they continue with their exhilarating brand of rugby. They are now assured of a Newlands semi-final and this week will take a well-earned break.

It remains for me to wish you a great week. Take it easy out there and all of the very best.

Kind regards.

Rob Wagner.
