It is hard to believe that another year has come to an end. However, the challenges that it presented to the Villager FC were met with much fortitude and the club looks forward with much excitement to the 2019 Super League A Competition. A huge thanks must go to the President, Chairman, Main Committee, coaches, team management, players, non-playing members, sponsors, Saggy Stone Villager Restaurant and Pub – collectively all made for a happy and busy club which was very evident on matchdays and in the high number of events that were staged in the clubhouse and on the fields.
Pre-season training will commence on Monday 14 January 2019 for the players and the pre-season friendlies will be as follows:
* Saturday 9 March vs Boland club (training camp weekend in the Boland).
* Saturday 16 March vs Uni-Mil (David Karon Memorial Day away).
* Saturday 30 March vs Hamiltons (Derby Day away).
The 2019 Super League A Competition will kick off on Saturday 6 April 2019 (fixtures not yet received).
It has been decided that in 2019 Clinton van Rensburg will be elevated into a position where he will act in the capacity of rugby, coaching and player consultant. We are excited to announce that Kevin van Rensburg, brother of Clinton, has relocated from Durban to Cape Town and has accepted the position of 1XV Head Coach. Kevin has been a highly successful Head Coach with the Amanzimtoti RFC (KZN Premier A) and has also coached KZN U16 and U19 teams, and the Sharks Club XV. We warmly welcome Kevin to the Villager family and we hope he enjoys many happy years at this great club.
The 2019 subscription invoices will be forwarded early in the New Year and we would really appreciate if we could increase our membership to minimum 150 non-playing members. For a club as famous as the Villager FC that number should not even remotely present a problem particularly with an annual subscription fee of only R500. In 2019 each paid-up member will also receive complimentary vouchers to the value of R300.
We are planning a most interesting 2019 season with guest speakers at the club which will be in keeping with Rugby World Cup year. It will be one of the most competitive Rugby World Cups with a number of nations having caught up with New Zealand and there will be upsets during the competition. And knowing Rassie Erasmus the Boks will be well-prepared and very competitive!
Please note that the club will close on Friday 21 December 2018 and will re-open on Thursday 3 January 2019. The admin office will re-open on Monday 14 January 2019. It, therefore, remains a pleasure to wish all Villagers a happy festive season filled with much fun and laughter. Thank you for the past season, enjoy the break and we look forward to welcoming you all to the club in the 2019 season. Let us make it a season to remember in all aspects and may the support of this very special club grow even stronger next year.
All of the very best to you all.
